What a symphony of youthful excellence it has been! The Umhlanga Hindu Society Youth Forum which was established in the year 2013 is a dynamic and active youth group operating with the ideals of culture, tradition, humanitarian work (SEVA), and religion at the forefront of all undertakings.
The forum is one of the largest religiously inclined youth groups in the area and fosters the collective message of Dharma (righteousness) in all of its undertakings. Covid-19 has done so much more than just upset our routines and snatch lives. It has given us all a chance to introspect and take charge of our own destinies and during this pandemic, the forum stood valiantly against all odds.
Our Achievements
In recent times the UHSYF has undertaken SEVA programmes, online prayer and cultural portals, humanitarian drives and our ever-popular Rasam drive. In July 2021 we assisted in a mammoth task of packing over 3800 hampers in 2 days. This was made possible through the comradeship of dynamic individuals that selflessly rallied together. Indeed, we have achieved a lot over the very many years.
Our Organisation
This fostering of young leaders within the society allows for the cultivation of secular and spiritual evolution and propagation. The social dynamics of the UHSYF has transgressed not only in South Africa but across the globe. In 2020 the youth forum held host to 30 Malaysian youth and has widened its international network with like-minded youth. This had afforded some of the youth the opportunity to go visit Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.
In the words of Swami Vivekananda, “Act on the educated young men, bring them together, and organise them. Great things can be done by great sacrifices only. No selfishness, no name, no fame, yours or mine, nor my Master’s even! Work, work the idea, the plan, my boys, my brave, noble, good souls – to the wheel, to the wheel put your shoulders!”
These words have been a beacon of overall excellence to the UHSYF and holding the ideals of Hinduism through giants amongst men like Swami Vivekananda, a role model to us all.
